Landmark Project — Block B2 Aerial Geophysical Survey
The Block B2 Aerial Geophysical Survey in Jonglei State was one of the most significant exploration projects undertaken in South Sudan’s oil and gas sector. The project was conducted within the Muglad-Melut Rift Basin system, one of Africa’s major frontier hydrocarbon basins.
Executed by South Sudan Geophysical Co. Ltd (SSGC) in partnership with Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF), Nile Orange, and Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet), the project involved advanced airborne magnetic and gravity surveys aimed at mapping subsurface geological structures and identifying potential hydrocarbon reserves.
Covering approximately 47,000 square kilometres, the initiative became the largest geophysical survey ever conducted in South Sudan. SSGC successfully managed and executed the aerial survey operations, demonstrating its capability in handling complex, large-scale exploration logistics and data acquisition projects.
The project generated high-quality subsurface data that is currently supporting future seismic exploration programs and the planning of exploratory drilling activities across the region.
